Theaters Could See Windfall from New 'Skyfall' Flick (IMAX) (CKEC) (CNK)

November 12, 2012 11:36 AM EST
The latest James Bond flick, "Skyfall," was a record-breaker in any sense of the word. Ticket sales over the weekend topped $87 million in U.S. and Canada, easily a record for the franchise and a boon for theater owners. The last strong opening weekend was for "Quantum of Solace" in 2008, which drew $67.5 million in its opening weekend, making actor Daniel Craig, at least in terms of box office dollars-and-cents, the most popular Bond yet.

"Skyfall" reportedly cost around $200 million to produce and has garnered about $323 million overseas since its October 26th debut. One analyst sees the film hitting about $900 million in sales.

Up on the news today are Carmike Cinemas (Nasdaq: CKEC), Cinemark Holdings (NYSE: CNK), and IMAX Corp. (NYSE: IMAX). Sony (NYSE: SNE) and MGM produced "Skyfall."
