Notable ETF Movers of the Day 10/16: (SMH) (XLI) Higher; (KRE) Lower

October 16, 2012 2:23 PM EDT
Gainers:

Market Vectors Semiconductor ETF (NYSE: SMH) gained 1.9 percent to 31.4. The move higher comes ahead of Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) earnings after the bell. Analysts are calling for EPS of $50 cents on $13.23 billion in revenue, but there could be room for upside despite dismal views of overall PC sales.

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLI) gained 0.9 percent following the release of industrial production data that showed September production higher by 0.4 percent vs. 0.2 percent expected. Investors view this as a sign that manufacturing is stabilizing after slumping in August.

Decliners:

SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF (NYSE: KRE) declined 0.65 percent to 28.05. Shares of PNC Financial (NYSE: PNC) declined 3.75 percent following the company’s earnings report. Commerce Bank (Nasdaq: CBSH) also reported earnings today. Its stock is trading lower by 3.35 percent.
