VeriFone Systems (PAY) NFC Terminal May be Popular Choice for Small Businesses Moving to Apple Pay

October 31, 2014 2:04 PM EDT

VeriFone Systems, Inc. (NYSE: PAY) is active Friday following a positive mention earlier.

The NY Times wrote about small business adoption of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) new Apple Pay service. The article noted that, while signing up for Apple Pay is free and there won't be any fees from Apple on top of what processors charge, merchants will need to get a near-field communication-compatible payment terminal.

Vantiv's (NYSE: VNTV) president of merchant services, Donald Boeding, recommended the VeriFone VX520. Vantiv said it's selling the device for about $250. Boeding said, That model is rugged, has a powerful processor, great memory, and is an N.F.C. reader that is E.M.V.-compliant.

No other NFC payment terminals were mentioned in the article. Shares of Verifone are up 1.3 percent.
