Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) is planning to launch a new advertising platform this week as it looks to take more market share from Google (Nasdaq: GOOG)(Nasdaq: GOOGL).
According to the WSJ, Facebook will debut a revamped version of Atlas Advertiser Suite, which it purchased from Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) in 2013, simply dubbed Atlas. The platform will help advertisers understand better what users have seen, interacted with, or acted upon in terms of ads appearing on Facebook's main website as well as third-party sites.
There will also be an automated ad-buying tool aimed at allowing marketers to purchase ads targeting Facebook users as they move around the Internet.
Launch of Atlas could happen this week, just months before the holiday shopping season ramps up. Shares of Facebook are negative in early trading Tuesday.
