Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is said to be expanding subsidies to vendors of mobile devices.
According to Digitimes, Microsoft will expand "subsidies to vendors for Windows-based tablets, and in addition to sub-9-inch models, tablets priced below US$250 will also receive free Windows licenses."
The new strategy has prompted many white-box vendors in China to add more tablets to their line-ups. Free copies of Windows saves vendors about $10 to $15 per device.
Windows-based tablets might have a good chance of grabbing market share from Google Android devices given the full-PC functionality of the tablets.
Microsoft is up 0.6 percent Monday.
