Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) didn't hold a major event itself on Monday, but it got a strong boost from one of its peers.
With it's introduction of OS X 10.10, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) has made Microsoft's Bing the default search engine for the platform.
The move comes as Apple and Microsoft, while not the best of friends, both realize that Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) has been too dominant in several key markets. That evolution has brought the two companies closer together over the last few years.
Bing is now included in OS X, Siri, and Windows 8. Being the default search engine on two major platforms should help Bing gain more market share and progress Microsoft's plan to refocus on cloud and mobile.
Shares of Microsoft are lower in early trading Tuesday.
