Meet Your 2014 Dogs of the Dow

January 2, 2014 12:48 PM EST
Below is the 2014 "Dogs of the Dow" list, which represents the top 10 dividend yielding stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average at the beginning of the year. According to our calculations, three new stocks were added to the list this year: Chevron (NYSE: CVX), Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), replacing Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ), du Pont (NYSE: DD) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ).

Last year's 'Dogs' increased by 30%, outstripping the 26.5% gain in the Dow 30 as a whole. This was led by the near doubling of Hewlett-Packard, which is now off the list. The strategy, however, has cumulatively unperformed from 2001 through 2010.
