Nike, Inc. (NYSE: NKE) may be looking to update its popular sports watch line sometime in the first-half of 2014.
Digitimes said that the launch follows the release of Nike+ Sportwatch and Fuelband SE in 2013. It wasn't made immediately clear whether or not the new device would be an update of the current models or an entirely new device.
Nike has had some success in the wearable technology segment. While rivals like adidas have moved to penetrate the market, Nike has the distribution channel and pricing to maintain its advantage. adidas' new miCoach Smart Run device, for instance, sells for $399, while the Fuelband SE runs $149. Notably, adidas' offering supports Windows, iOS, and Android, while the Nike device works with only iOS.
Digitimes sees smartwatch sales of 24.15 million units with ASP of $100 over the next three years.
