Samsung Loses Bid to Overturn Ban in Apple (AAPL) Patent Case

October 8, 2013 11:05 AM EDT
Apple, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) shares are on watch Tuesday following news that the White House upheld a ban that Samsung must stop importing some of its handheld devices into the U.S.

U.S. Trade Rep Michael Froman said in a statement today, After carefully weighing policy considerations, including the impact on consumers and competition, advice from agencies, and information from interested parties, I have decided to allow the import ban to proceed.

Samsung previously argued to the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) that the ban should be overturned on public policy grounds. The company will be allowed to seek a delay in the ban from U.S. appeals court.

Last August, a ban won by Samsung to block sales of the Apple iPhone 4S was overturned on Presidential veto.

Shares of Apple are down 0.6 percent.
