Strong 'Gravity' Opening has Time Warner, IMAX on Watch (TWX) (IMAX)

Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) and IMAX Corp (NYSE: IMAX) are on watch today following a strong showing in U.S. theaters over the weekend.

BoxOfficeMojo had the film Gravity with a weekend pull of $55.55 million from 3,575 theaters, or about $15,538 per theater. Budget on the film, which was produced by Warner Bros. studios, is estimated at $100 million.

Sony's Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 was number two with $21.5 million for its second week, with the movie now grossing $60.56 million. Budget on the film was $78 million.

Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (Nasdaq: FOX) saw its Runner Runner third at $7.6 million.

Notably, the run for Gravity might not be over. Latest checks with IMDB.com has the movie with an overall rating of 8.8 out of 10 stars, with 24.8K users registering a vote. That is generally blockbuster caliber and should provide another few weeks of strong performance.

Shares of Time Warner and IMAX are both lower as markets remain pressured.
