As previously noted, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) might be considering Ford (NYSE: F) CEO Alan Mulally to takeover as CEO of the software giant.
Bloomberg said on Wednesday that other candidates include former Nokia (NYSE: NOK) CEO Stephen Elop, as well as Microsoft's business development chief Tony Bates and former Microsoft exec Paul Maritz.
Mulally hasn't responded to nultiple requests looking for a response to reports last week the Microsoft might look for him to lead the company. The CEO took over the role at Ford in 2006 and, at 68 years old, its not clear he might have the desire to take on another multi-year, high-stress executive role. On Tuesday, Ford chairman Bill Ford, Jr., said praised Ford' current executive team and plans for Mulally to continue leading the Dearborn, MI-based automaker.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was said to retire sometime between now and August 2014.
Shares of Microsoft are down in early trading.
