Apple (AAPL) to Hold Special China Event Hours After U.S. iPhone Unveiling

September 4, 2013 7:15 AM EDT
Just hours after Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is set to unveil its latest iPhone in the U.S. on September 10th, the company has invited Chinese journalists to an event in Beijing on September 11th.

This is the first time the company has scheduled back-to-back events in the U.S. and China, its largest markets, and could spark speculation that the company will announced the long-anticipated deal with China Mobile.

ISI analyst Brian Marshall thinks Apple's smartphone opportunity with China Mobile could be as large as AT&T (NYSE: T) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) combined. He sees Apple selling more than 5 million iPhones to China Mobile users though December, and he sees total 2014 opportunity of nearly 38.7 million units.
