Apple (AAPL) Hires Key Person to Aid Smartwatch Development

August 19, 2013 12:51 PM EDT
If Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is working on a smartwatch, it just got a storehouse full of gunpowder.

9to5Mac noted today that Jay Blahnik, who helped development of several Nike (NYSE: NKE) products, including its popular FuelBand series, is joining Apple. Blahnik has been a consultant in the past for companies such as Gatorade and General Electric (NYSE: GE), and has worked with Apple in the past.

StockTwits founder Howard Lindzon also liked the move, calling its a big 'get' for Apple. He also sees bigger collaboration opportunities between the two companies in the future. Notably, Tim Cook is on Nike's Board of Directors.

Shares of Apple and Nike are both up on the session.
