Logitech (LOGI) Goes to 'the Crowd' for Latest Accessories Acquisition

June 6, 2013 7:35 AM EDT
Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGI) may be playing it smart when it comes to acquiring companies with innovative new products.

Tap Kickstarter!

According to a blog post on Logitech's official website, the company has acquired TT Design Labs.

TT Designs Tidytilt, which is a cover for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 5 which resembles the iPad Smart Cover. (Note: we're not promoting the case, the link is to show what it looks like.)

Whether or not Logitech could have come up with something similar is debatable. What isn't is that the acquisition gives Logitech immediate exposure without having to spend millions on R&D while also trying to cut through the red tape found in many corporate cultures.

Crowdsouricing new ideas isn't a...new idea. But, it's a way of thinking that could put Logitech ahead of the curve. That is, until other companies start to catch on.

Shares are flat in early trading.
