Netflix (NFLX) Brings More Disney/Pixar Content Overseas (DIS)

May 13, 2013 9:49 AM EDT
Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) is off to a solid start Monday following news over the weekend that it is begining to add Disney (NYSE: DIS) content overseas.

TheNextWeb said that Netflix will be adding a slew of Disney and Pixar films to its service in the U.K. and Ireland. Names include "Wall-E," "The Chronicles of Narnia," "Ratatouille," and others along with some classic Diney animated films.

Netflix also plans to add "exclusive" titles from Disney, Marvel, and DreamWorks (Nasdaq: DWA) in the coming months.

TNW commented that, while new content is always a plus, broadcast giant BSkyB also recently announced a co-branded linear channel for Disney and Pixar films. That is in addition to BSkyB's already existing Disney channel. Whether the move will draw in new subs is questionable at this point.

News comes following reports last week that Netflix and The Disney/ABC Television Group entered a new multi-year licensing agreement in the U.S.

Late last year, Netflix and Disney entered a new multi-year agreement for online video distribution, but that deal largely doesn't start until 2016.

Shares of Netflix are up nearly 4 percent early.
