Disney (DIS) Banks on Stark: 'Iron Man 3' Has Solid Opening Ahead of U.S. Debut
Disney (NYSE: DIS) is at annual highs today, hitting $63.25 on the session, following strong results for Marvel Entertainment's Iron Man 3 over the weekend. And there's still more to come.
Globally, IM3 took in $195.3 million in 42 markets, versus $185.1 million for second-place Avengers Assemble. Performance was best in the U.K., South Korea, Australia, Mexico, and France.
IM3 will hit U.S. shores next weekend, which might seem like an unusual strategy for one of the world's largest movie market. However, Disney distribution head Dave Hollis said he wanted to get the film out before the May 1st "May Day" holiday, a day which many foreign workers and children have off.
Shares of Disney rose 2.2 percent to the new mark Monday.
