Ron Johnson Could Make His Way Back to Apple (AAPL)

April 9, 2013 6:47 AM EDT
Welcome back to 2011!

Following the unexpected announcement that JCPenney (NYSE: JCP) CEO Ron Johnson stepped down from the role Monday night, some have wondered weather or not he would make a move back over to Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL).

Following Johnson's leave of absence from Apple in late 2011, the company has largely struggled to find a replacement to lead the retail unit that Johnson largely built.

Apple tapped John Browett from Dixons Retail in February 2012. Following a series of missteps by Browett, including staff and work hour cuts, he was asked to leave just half-a-year after accepting the role.

Notably, another former Apple executive, Sissie Twiggs, was said to leave JCPenney, the news coming just hours before disclosure that Johnson would be leaving the company. Prior to joining JCPenney, Twiggs spent 16 years at Apple as Vice President of Media in Digital Marketing.

Mike Ullman, CEO of JCPenney before Johnson came aboard in 2011, was reappointed to the role Monday.

Shares of Apple are indicated for a stronger open Tuesday.
