Another positive for the 3-D printing community?
3Doodler, which bills itself as creator of the world's first 3D printing pen, said it topped its Kickstarter goal by 6,774 percent. Having a goal of raising $30,000 in startup funds, the company has raised $2,061,300 from 23,121 backers. That's about $90 apiece for a pen that can draw 3D shapes.
3Doodler noted that Pebble, which build an electronic wristwatch that Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is expected to compete with, raised $10,266,845 in May 2012 for its project.
The massive interest in 3D technology like a pen hints that 3D printing might not disappear quite as quickly -- or at all -- as 3D programming did following the 2009 release of "Avatar."
Traders will be keeping an eye on names like 3D Systems (NYSE: DDD), Stratasys (Nasdaq: SSYS), and ExOne (Nasdaq: XONE).
