Analyst at Nomura think the market for x86-based tablets will become sizable over time, which would benefit AMD (NYSE: AMD).

"x86-tablets allow full compatibility with legacy applications, making them more attractive to enterprises and professional users," said analyst Romit Shah.

He estimates 5 to 10 million x86 tablet shipments in 2012, growing to 30 to 40 million units in 2013.

"Along those lines, AMD announced a low-power chip Z-60, formerly codenamed Hondo, for x86-based tablets. The chip is using a 40nm process that combines a dual-core Bobcat CPU and 80 Radeon GPU cores," said Shah.

He doesn't expect much revenue this year from Z-60, as AMD will likely miss the first round of tablet design wins for Win 8, but next year’s generation could fair better.

Nomura Securities has a Neutral rating on AMD and a price target of $5.00.
