Notable ETF Movers of the Day 10/09: (XME) (XRT) Higher; (XLK) Lower
Gainers:
SPDR S&P Metals & Mining (NYSE: XME) gained 2 percent to 44.90. Share of Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX) and other metals names climbed on news of additional China stimulus. The Wall Street Journal reported that the People's Bank of China pumped 265 billion yuan into the economy by way of an increase in reverse repurchase agreements, which could help create liquidity.
Decliners:
SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) declined 1.4 percent to 63.11. Shares of Expedia (Nasdaq: EXPE) declined 2.3 percent. This was the third day of declines in a row, and is likely related to profit taking after an 87 percent year-to-date rally.
Technology Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLK) declined 1 percent to 30.24. Yesterday, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), the top holding in XLK declined. Today Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) the second largest holding in XLK, declined. MSFT fell 1.7 percent thanks to general, ongoing concerns regarding the future of the PC. Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) stock fell in sympathy, dropped 2.6 percent.
