Today Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) acquired Nik Software, maker of the popular app Snapseed. Insiders say Google may use the technology to enhance Google+.
The software allows users to edit photos in a similar similar to Facebookâs (Nasdaq: FB) recent, and widely criticized, billion-dollar acquisition Instagram.
Rival Shutterfly (Nasdaq: SFLY) also made headlines today with its acquisition of Penguin Digital, a mobile application developer that provides ways to create, share and purchase photo merchandise directly from mobile devices.
Shutterfly shares are over 3 percent lower Monday, while Google and Facebook are also showing some notable weakness.
