Since Alcoa (NYSE: AA) unofficially kicked-off second-quarter 2012 earnings season on July 9th, investors might be wondering what some of the best and worst performers of this earnings season have been over the last 2.5 weeks.

We have a list. Below are the top 10 best and worst of the season. Some of the names below might be a surprise, but many aren't if you've been following the stock.

For instance, Netflix is facing a ton of competition given the low barrier to entry of its industry, while MetroPCS is a stock that's been hammered given margin concerns as well as market share issues.

Winners:
  • Peregrine Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: PPHM) - up 67.31 percent;
  • Nexen, Inc. (NYSE: NXY) - up 49.10 percent;
  • Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (Nasdaq: MLNX) - up 41.06 percent;
  • MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS) - up 38.69 percent;
  • MPG Office Trust (NYSE: MPG) - up 35.19 percent;
  • Lumber Liquidators (NYSE: LL) - up 28.82 percent;
  • Terex Corp. (NYSE: TEX) - up 27.21 percent;
  • Solarwinds (NYSE: SWI) - up 25.19 percent;
  • Riverbed Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: RVBD) - up 22.08 percent; and
  • Electro Scientific Industries (Nasdaq: ESIO) - up 21.86 percent
Losers:
  • SUPERVALU, Inc. (NYSE: SVU) - down 55.39 percent;
  • New Oriental Education & Technology (NYSE: EDU) - down 45.24 percent;
  • RIT Technologies Ltd (Nasdaq: RITT) - down 38.60 percent;
  • Zynga (Nasdaq: ZNGA) - down 36.59 percent;
  • Lodgenet Interactive Corp. (Nasdaq: LNET) - down 35.25 percent;
  • Quality Systems (Nasdaq: QSII) - down 35.00 percent;
  • RadioShack Corp. (NYSE: RSH) - down 34.52 percent;
  • Gentex Corp (Nasdaq: GNTX) - down 28.94 percent;
  • Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) - down 28.54 percent; and
  • Logmein, Inc. (Nasdaq: LOGM) - down 27.53 percent.
