Fear Combo, VIX (VXX) and Bonds Spike

May 4, 2012 11:26 AM EDT
The VIX was up close to 4 percent midday, while yields on the 10 year bonds sank near 3 month lows. The combo clearly paints a picture of a market that is jumping headlong back into the risk-off trade.

Investors can get exposure to the VIX by trading the S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Index Total Return (NYSE: VXX).

Bond investors can trade Barclays Capital U.S. 7-10 Year Treasury Bond Index (NYSE: IEF).
