Renren (NYSE: RENN) shares are surprisingly lower Friday following recent data showing the Chinese social networking giant has found further integration into another of the world's largest web browsers.
In early 2010, according to data from CNET, Renren got an extension on Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Chrome, meaning users would be able to quickly share thoughts and ideas with peers via a simple button integrated into the browser. Of course, downloads of just 275 put the extension into the nether-realms of importance for Chrome.
However, just this week, a new, more-official-looking extension debuted for the wildly popular browser Firefox. According to the description: "After installing the add-on, you can find 'blog,' 'photo,' 'share,' 'status,' and 'post' in the menu when you right click the name or the photo of a person."
The move is big for Renren; recent data from StatCounter showed Chrome and Firefox at number two and three, respectively, globally for overall web browsers. Number one is the Windows-included Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Internet Explorer. Chrome is said to have about a 31 percent of the global share, compared with 25 percent for Firefox.
Shares of Renren are about 0.4 percent lower early Friday following a rather nice two-session run.
