Notable ETF Movers of the Day 04/18: (VXX) (UNG) Higher; (USO) (SMH) Lower
Gainers
- iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 2.00 percent to $18.35. The CBOE VIX is up about 3 percent on the session Wednesday as the tech sector is getting hit amid tech earnings. IBM (NYSE: IBM) issued a bottom-line beat, though revs were a little shy. Meanwhile, Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) gross margins compressed compared to the prior quarter. Both tech giants are lower on the session.
- United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 1.02 percent to $14.82. Nat gas ticking higher following reports the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the first nat gas export plant in the lower 48 states, setting the stage for a potenital spike in prices as cheaper nat gas gets shipped off to places where it may run as high as $11 per mmBtu.
The license was granted to Cheniere Energy (NYSE: LNG) at Sabine Pass at the Texas-Louisiana border.
- United States Oil (NYSE: USO) down 1.61 percent to $39.00. Crude slightly lower on the session following data from the American Petroleum Institute showing stockpiles rose 3.4 barrels, versus some estimates calling for just a 0.4 million barrel gain. WTI May contracts are down $1.54 to $102.66 per barrel.
- Market Vectors Semiconductor ETF (NYSE: SMH) down 0.80 percent to $34.81. As mentioned, tech stocks lower following Intel and IBM's numbers. Intel is off about 2 percent on the session while IBM is 2.8 percent lower.
