Notable ETF Movers of the Day 10/11: (FXI) (MOO) (XME) Higher; (VXX) (XRT) (GLD) Lower

  • iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSE: FXI) up 2.60 percent to $33.54. China stocks making a run today following reports that a state-run investment arm -- Central Huijin Investment Ltd.-- began buying stock of the nation's four biggest banks after a drop in valuations. The Shanghai Composite Index moved as much as 2.9 percent better on the session.

  • Market Vectors Agribusiness ETF (NYSE: MOO) up 0.72 percent to $46.48. The ETF is being led higher by Mosaic (NYSE: MOS), following talks that Temasek may be taking a good look at the company. Mosaic shares are up 4.4 percent on the session.

  • SPDR S&P Metals & Mining (NYSE: XME) up 0.16 percent to $48.67. Miners are moving higher, getting a boost from Alcoa (NYSE: AA). The aluminum producing giant may be facing headwinds on pricing, but lowered expectations might set up a win. Alcoa is expected to report third-quarter earnings after the market closes, and shares are currently trading about 2.6 percent better.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 0.60 percent to $46.33. The CBOE VIX is lower Tuesday as markets are mixed following continued support from Germany and France for bank capitalization in Europe.

  • SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) down 0.72 percent to $49.48. The move is being led by OfficeMax Incorporated (NYSE: OMX), which is down 5.4 percent on the session. In retail, volume is a little light, but investors might be positioning for what some will be a notably weak quarter.

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) down 0.80 percent to $161.96. Gold slipping today as markets await a Slovakian vote aimed at ratifing changes to it's rescue fund. Slovakia is the last member of the euro area to vote on the measure, and three of four parties said they'll agree to it. Gold is down $4.5 to $1,666.3 per ounce on the Comex.
