Canaccord Genuity Global Growth Conference: Communications Technology Trends Positive Despite Challenging Stock Market
"Several of our coverage companies attended the Canaccord Genuity Global Growth Conference, and we highlight the following trends from our meetings. First, global smartphone demand remains strong with limited pockets of inventory and growing demand in emerging markets such as China and Latin America. Second, global wireless infrastructure trends remain healthy with 4G (LTE) builds in North America and solid trends in emerging markets such as Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Third, growing demand for smartphones on faster 3G/4G networks is leading to increasing consumer demand for mobile applications and solutions."
"Global smartphone demand remains strong - Though our July checks indicated limited change in smartphone share trends, we anticipate a very competitive smartphone market during H2/11 with key new products launching from leading OEMs supporting major mobile ecosystems. Please see our August 4 macro note titled “July checks – consistent trends ahead of new product launches and back-to-school promotions” for more details. In fact, we anticipate new smartphone launches from RIM (Nasdaq: RIMM), HTC, Samsung, Nokia (NYSE: NOK), Motorola Mobility (NYSE: MMI) and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) over the next couple months could result in market share shifts during the important back-to-school and holiday seasons."
"Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) and Brightpoint (Nasdaq: CELL) should benefit from increasing global smartphone mix – We believe Qualcomm should benefit from growing global smartphone sales along with increased sales to leading OEMs such as RIM, Nokia, HP, Apple and Samsung in F2012, as these OEMs increasingly utilize Snapdragon to power new smartphones and tablets. Further, we believe Brightpoint’s EPS growth trends should benefit from an increasing global mix of smartphones and tablets increasing total gross margin dollars."
"Ceragon Networks (Nasdaq: CRNT), Powerwave (Nasdaq: PWAV), Anaren (Nasdaq: ANEN), and Cogo (Nasdaq: COGO) highlight pockets of strength in
global wireless infrastructure spending – These companies highlighted pockets of strength for global wireless infrastructure spending. Anaren highlighted strong demand for its Xinger III products and share gains with leading OEMs, while Ceragon Networks and Powerwave highlighted diversified customer bases and solid global demand trends."
"NetQin (NYSE: NQ) and Smith Micro (Nasdaq: SMSI) highlight mobile software solutions – NetQin highlighted its growing software portfolio and overall growing subscriber base, while Smith Micro management provided new details regarding its new software solutions as the company plans to return to profitability over the next four to six quarters."
