Barclays on U.S. Retail Softlines: FY 2011 Q2 Earnings Preview
"During the week of August 15th the following U.S. Softlines Retailers will report FY 2011 Q2 earnings: Abercrombie (NYSE: ANF), Ann (NYSE: ANN), Aeropostole (NYSE: ARO), Chico's (NYSE: CHS), Gap (NYSE: GPS), Limited (NYSE: LTD), Children's Place (Nasdaq: PLCE), Ross Stores (Nasdaq: ROST), TJ Cos (NYSE: TJX) and Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq: URBN)."
"Positive data points: The companies we feel best about going into earnings this week are ANF, LTD, PLCE, TJX and URBN. Concurrent with this report we are upgrading our opinion on LTD from Underweight to Equal Weight."
"Negative data points: The companies we feel could have negative commentary or guidance, or could disappoint, include ARO, AEO, CHS, and TLB (though we think the recent animal print capsule is selling well)."
"We are lowering our estimates for CHS and we are raising our estimates on ANF. We are lowering our price targets on the following retailers: AEO, ARO, CHS, and PacSun (Nasdaq: PSUN)."
"We expect the key topics on Q2 calls to remain the same from Q1: cost pressures in the supply chain, the ability to pass along price increases, inventory plans (units and dollars), gross margin outlook, SG&A flexibility and whether there has been any softening in demand..."
