Notable ETF Movers of the Day 04/26: (XLI) (SPY) (XLK) Higher; (VXX) (GLD) (UUP) Lower

Gainers

  • Industrial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLI) up 1.95 percent to $38.25. Bolstered by 3M (NYSE: MMM) today, which reported first-quarter EPS of $1.49 on revs of $7.3 billion, versus consensus EPS of $1.44 and revs of $6.95 billion. 3M also gave increased guidance. Shares are 1.7 percent stronger today, and also achieved a 52-week high of $96.37.

  • SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE: SPY) up 0.82 percent to $134.75. Strong earnings reports from such components as 3M, Ford (NYSE: F), and United Parcel (NYSE: UPS), are lifting markets today. Consumer confidence for April also topped views by coming in at 65.4. Consensus was looking for 64.4. U.S. markets are largely up on the day, with many approaching a one percent gain.

  • Technology Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLK) up 0.83 percent to $26.59. Getting a little boost today, as Int'l Business Machines (NYSE: IBM) increased its quarterly dividend 15 percent to $0.75 and authorized an additional $8 billion common stock buyback. IBM shares are 0.6 percent better on the day.

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 3.13 percent to $23.55. The CBOE VIX is 3 percent lower today, as investors find earnings and economic data as a good enough reason to put their money back to work.

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) down 0.46 percent to $146.19. Gold and silver pulling back a little on some profit taking following record highs in recent weeks. Additionally, margin requirements on the CME for silver futures were increased, prompted by a recent surge in volatility. iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV) is down 4.36 percent to $43.85 as well.

  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) down 0.12 percent to $21.18. The ETF is fluctuating a little bit today, but lower overall ahead of the FOMC rate decision, expected out Wednesday afternoon. Expectations are leaning to continued loose monetary policy from the fed, with benchmark rates kept low at 0 - 0.25 percent.
