Retail Sales Rise 4.8% in January; ICSC Sees Feb. Comps Up 2.5-3%

With today the first Thursday of the month, retailers reported their monthly sales figures for the last month this morning before the market opened. The International Council of Shopping Centers reported same-store sales for the month of January rose 4.8%, sharply higher than the 1.5-2% range the organization previously forecasted. ICSC sees February comps up 2.5-3%.

Below is a summary of some of the notable retail sales reports:
  • Zumiez (Nasdaq: ZUMZ) - 15.3% jump in same-store sales, stock up 4% today
  • Fred's (Nasdaq: FRED) - 2.1% rise in comps, stock down 2.4%
  • Costco (Nasdaq: COST) - 9% surge, stock up 4.5%
  • Limited Brands (NYSE: LTD) - strong 24% rise, stock up 7%
  • Target (NYSE: TGT) - 1.7% rise, stock up 1.1%
  • Macy's (NYSE: M) 2.6% higher, stock down 1.2%
  • Gap (NYSE: GPS) 1% rise, stock up 4%
  • Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) 6.1% surge, stock up 1.2%
  • American Eagle (NYSE: AEO) 6% decline, stock up 2%
  • TJX (NYSE: TJX) 2% rise, stock up 5%
  • A&F (NYSE: ANF) 4% decline, stock up 0.7%
  • JCPenney (NYSE: JCP) 1.2% decline, stock down 0.5%
  • Saks (NYSE: SKS) 4.4% increase, stock down 5%
