Gainers

  • SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) up 0.59% to $133.47. As markets creep into the green ahead of Apple, Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) and IBM (NYSE: IBM) earnings after the close today, investors are seeking a safe haven in gold. Some may also be looking at gold as a bargain, as prices have slipped from highs above $1400/ounce in early January, as the U.S. dollar is weaker today. February 11 contracts, the most actively traded, are $7.6/ounce better today, to $1368.1/ounce on the Comex.

  • Guggenheim Solar (NYSE: TAN) up 3.32% to $8.08. Led today by Yingli Green Energy (NYSE: YGE) and Trina Solar
(NYSE: TSL), as the two are well above 6% better on the day. No specific news is causing movement in the two, though First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR) received regulatory approval to construct a 230-MW solar plant in California.

  • Industrial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLI) up 0.67% to $36.15. Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) and Boeing (NYSE: BA) are leading industrials higher today, as Boeing put the third quarter, 2011, as a target for delivery of its first 787 Dreamliner, and CAT is seeing some strong buying above the $94.75 price level.
