Wall Street Hubbub 9/17: Meet Lisa Falcone, Radware Talks Heat Up Again, First Marblehead Gets Up

September 17, 2010 1:57 PM EDT
There is not a trading day that goes buy that gossip and scuttlebutt doesn't occupy attention of traders. Below are some items being discussed today.

  • The wife of Harbinger Capital hedge fun titan Phil Falcone is making some waves of her own and creating some laughs on Wall Street today. A Business Week article starts "Lisa Falcone is sitting at the head of a conference table, rapping to music by Swizz Beatz and waving her tanned arms above her head. She's meeting with the two employees of her fledgling company, Everest Entertainment. Just outside the room, her husband, Philip Falcone, is running his $9 billion hedge fund, Harbinger Capital, but that doesn't hold her back. She produced the song and sings along as it blasts from iPod speakers on the table: "Come on bitches, get your hands in the air, ugly bitches too, we don't care!"
  • After selling off the past few days after Tuesday's huge spike, rumored takeover target Radware Ltd. (Nasdaq: RDWR) is up over 5% today as speculators bet that something will come of all the chatter.
  • Analysts at ThinkEquity said Isilon Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ISLN) remains an attractive takeover candidate. This is a name that mutual fund giant accumulated a 10%+ stake in.
  • Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq: VECO) saw some activity today on unsubstantiated takeover chatter.
  • First Marblehead Corp. (NYSE: FMD) is moving 10% higher today after Student Loan Corp. (NYSE: STU) was acquired for $30 per share by Discover Financial (NYSE: DFS).
  • Traders have their eyes on smaller vaccine stocks makers Vical Inc. (Nasdaq: VICL) and GenVec, Inc. (Nasdaq: GNVC), following news that Crucell NV (Nasdaq: CRXL) is in advanced talks to be acquired by J&J (NYSE: JNJ). The stock haven't done much today, but are getting some chatter.
