American Airlines (NYSE: AMR) flight 331 skidded off the end of a runway in Jamaica. The jet was a Boeing (NYSE: BA) 737-800, one of the airline's newest models. There were 148 passengers aboard, and reports have about 40 taken to a hospital with a few broken bones and back pains. No fatalities have been reported.
There was heavy rain on the runway when the landing was attempted.
A YouTube video shows footage of the wreckage, and the plane looks to be split in two places. The left wing is seen to be broken, but there is no smoke or flames visible.
The nose of the plane was reportedly just feet from the water.
