New leadership charged with driving the transition from standards to build-out of the next Ethernet era

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Ethernet Alliance, a global consortium dedicated to the continued success and advancement of Ethernet technologies, today unveiled its 2017 Board of Directors and officers. The newly installed board and officers will focus their efforts on enabling the Ethernet ecosystem to deploy the broad array of recent standards that will carry networking through the next Ethernet era.

“The industry has invested significantly in developing advanced Ethernet standards that have or soon will be coming to fruition throughout 2017. We’ve seen the successful completion of specifications for 25 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 2.5 Gigabit (2.5G)/5G BASE-T and there are more – like 200GbE and 400GbE – on the horizon,” said John D’Ambrosia, chairman, Ethernet Alliance; and senior principal engineer, Huawei. “As development on these standards comes to a close, the Ethernet Alliance stands ready to support Ethernet’s continued expansion, and help drive market acceptance of highly interoperable, next-generation Ethernet technologies and applications. I’d like to offer my congratulations to our incoming board members and officers, and sincere thanks to everyone who served in 2016.”

Individuals named to the 2017 Ethernet Alliance Board of Directors and as officers include:

  • John D’Ambrosia, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.; Chairman, Board of Directors
  • Scott Kipp, Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BRCD); President, Board of Directors
  • Mark Nowell, Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO); Vice President, Board of Directors
  • David Rodgers, Teledyne LeCroy, Inc. (NYSE: TDY); Marketing Chair, Board of Directors
  • Craig Carlson, Cavium (NASDAQ: CAVM); Board of Directors
  • David Chalupsky, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC); Board of Directors
  • Yong Kim, Broadcom Ltd. (NASDAQ: AVGO); Board of Directors
  • Greg McSorley, Amphenol Corporation (NYSE: APH); Board of Directors

All Board of Directors members and officers were elected and confirmed at the 2017 Ethernet Alliance annual members meeting, held January 11, 2017. Reflecting the full spectrum of the Ethernet ecosystem, the organization’s officers and board include networking, data center, cabling, optics, semiconductor, and test and measurement representatives.

Also during the meeting, the Board reconfirmed George Zimmerman for a second term as Technical Chair, and appointed Mr. Rodgers as the new Marketing Chair for 2017. In this position, Mr. Rodgers will be responsible for directing and overseeing all Ethernet Alliance marketing and public relations activities. Beyond his role as Ethernet Alliance Marketing Chair, Mr. Rodgers is a senior product marketing manager for Teledyne LeCroy, with 30 years of experience in defining, designing, deploying, and marketing high-speed serial analysis test and measurement products for Ethernet and Fibre Channel SANs and LANs.

Ranging from 2.5- and 5GbE to 400GbE, many of the milestones featured on the Ethernet Alliance roadmaps have been realized or are slated for ratification by the end of 2017. Among the key standards currently shaping the market are:

  • 2.5GbE and 5GbE, offering fatter pipes for next-generation Wi-Fi deployments and allowing faster access for Wi-Fi enabled devices;
  • 25GbE, facilitating performance improvements for hyperscale data centers and serving as a solution beyond 10GbE; and
  • 200/400GbE, providing a networking upgrade path from 100G for data center and service provider applications.

With key standards in place and the build-out of the next Ethernet era imminent, the market demand for greater bandwidth and higher speeds is more important than ever. The Ethernet Alliance remains committed to supporting Ethernet’s continued success and expansion, from technology incubation to market deployment, through its interoperability and education efforts.
