New Auto-ISAC affiliation underscores HARMAN’s commitment to tackling critical cybersecurity vulnerabilities through industry collaboration

STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HARMAN International Industries, Incorporated (NYSE: HAR), the premier connected technologies company for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, has joined the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC), a collective force of automotive industry leaders collaborating to share, track and analyze intelligence about cyber threats and potential vulnerabilities against connected cars. Under this new affiliation, HARMAN continues to advance the state of cybersecurity with fellow companies and associations within the automotive industry, emphasizing its commitment to keep the connected car protected.

“HARMAN is proud to join this group of like-minded organizations who are committed to prioritizing cybersecurity protective measures for the connected car,” said Saar Dickman, vice president of automotive cybersecurity at HARMAN. “HARMAN has placed significant emphasis on cybersecurity protective measures, including our 5+1 automotive security frameworks and our acquisition of TowerSec in January this year. Becoming a member of Auto-ISAC adds another layer of intelligence and information sharing to progress the industry’s automotive cybersecurity agenda.”

As cars are becoming more connected throughout the world, the need for a robust and in-depth security framework is absolutely essential to ensure the privacy and safety of the vehicle and its occupants. HARMAN has been investing in the development of a complete multilayer security framework that addresses “defense in depth” within the system design, along with over-the-air (OTA) updates and software-based security solutions that can be implemented not only in future vehicles but retrofitted to unsecured cars on the road today.

Currently, Auto-ISAC members account for more than 99 percent of light-duty vehicles on the road in North America. By sharing critical threat, risk and vulnerability information through the Auto-ISAC central intelligence platform, Auto-ISAC greatly enhances the industry’s on-going efforts to safeguard connected car systems and networks.
