Company steadily climbs the top ranks after being honored as 2015 Contractor of the Year

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Engineering News-Record (ENR) has named Balfour Beatty US the Southeast’s No. 1 contractor for 2016. This recognition is based on the combined performance of Balfour Beatty’s businesses across the Southeast region of the United States, including Balfour Beatty Construction, Balfour Beatty Infrastructure and Balfour Beatty Investments.

ENR’s Top Contractors list, published annually, ranks both publicly and privately held general contractors based on construction contracting-specific revenue. Over the past five years, Balfour Beatty has steadily risen through the ranks on this prestigious list, climbing from the No. 3 spot in 2012 to cementing its status as the region’s leading contractor in 2016. Balfour Beatty exceeded $1 billion of revenue in the Southeast region in 2015 for the second time in five years.

“The Southeast region is a key market for both our civil and vertical businesses,” said Ray Bond, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Construction and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. “This ranking reflects our commitment to delivering infrastructure and buildings to support the rapidly growing communities in the Southeastern United States.”

Balfour Beatty’s civil work in the Southeast includes the $143 million Maysville Bypass in North Carolina that ENR cited as the company’s largest project to break ground in 2015 according to project value. In addition, Balfour Beatty Infrastructure is building two projects valued at $237 million for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) that will vastly expand the city’s LYNX light rail system, extending service to 11 new stations.

High-profile vertical projects under construction in the Southeast region reflect the breadth and depth of Balfour Beatty’s market diversity, representing the corporate, hospitality and multifamily sectors: 300 South Tryon in Charlotte, N.C.; Alta Midtown in Atlanta; Brickell Solitair in Miami; and The Hotel at Marion Square in Charleston, S.C. Balfour Beatty’s growing presence in South Carolina, which includes transformative projects for healthcare clients like McLeod Health and top-tier developers such as Bennett Hospitality, made a key contribution toward this No. 1 ranking.

“The opportunity to help write the next chapter of history for cities like Charleston and Little River is a really rewarding one,” said Pat Dean, Carolinas division president for Balfour Beatty Construction. “Our teams understand that we aren’t just building bricks and mortar – we’re building communities.”

Balfour Beatty’s No. 1 regional ranking is affirmed by the strength of the company’s primary Southeast market rankings by ENR, including: No. 1 in North Carolina; No. 11 in Georgia; No. 6 in Florida; and No. 8 in South Carolina.
