Apple (AAPL) Hits 'Home Run' with New MLB iPad Deal

March 30, 2016 8:51 AM EDT

While Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) may have a technology/tablet deal with the NFL, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) will be featured in more of a slow moving backdrop: baseball.

The WSJ said that Apple will supply the iPad tablet to MLB dugouts after recently inking a multi-year deal with the league.

According to the report, Teams will be able sift through performance stats from current and past seasons, weigh potential pitcher-hitter matchups, look at “spray charts” showing where a player is likely to hit a ball, even cue up videos of plays from previous games.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said coaches have been itching to get a tablet loaded with player data, so the agreement was a natural next step.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Shares of Apple are up over 1 percent in early trading.
