South Atlantic Packaging Corporation Acquires Prostar Packaging

The Acquisition Is Part of an Expansion in the Mid-Atlantic Region

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- South Atlantic Packaging Corporation, a full-service contract packaging company headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Prostar Packaging, located in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. The acquisition enhances South Atlantic’s presence in the food and beverage packaging space, in addition to providing additional capacity and equipment to grow throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

“As a nimble company that is on the forefront of innovation, we were able to move quickly when the opportunity arose for an acquisition that would assist us in better serving our customers throughout the region,” says Pat Grantham, Vice President of Sales and one of the owners of South Atlantic Packaging. “We found the business model at Prostar is very similar to the model at South Atlantic. Initial talks began in June 2015, and the acquisition was completed in late January 2016.”

Jim Cash, the former owner of Prostar Packaging, will stay on as the Director of Operations. Prostar was founded in 2006 and currently has a 100,000 square foot facility serving such clients as Del Monte, Big Heart Pet Brands and Benjamin Moore. “The Pennsylvania operation has a state-of-the-art Zambelli LFT800/70 with dual lanes — a piece of equipment that expands our company’s capabilities,” says Steve Burns, one of the three South Atlantic Packaging owners along with Grantham and Jim Rucker. “As we move into the future, we continue to look for possible acquisitions that can help us expand our customer base and capabilities.”

Founded in 2000, South Atlantic Packaging employs 150 full-time and temporary employees in the Triad with the ability to ramp up significantly based on the production projects the company is running at the time. South Atlantic Packaging has two Triad facilities with a total of 200,000 square feet, and additional locations in Somerset, New Jersey, and now Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Since 2009, South Atlantic Packaging has grown significantly, serving a wide range of clients that are nationally recognized brands at retailers such as Costco, Sam’s Club, Walmart, Lowe’s, Target, Home Depot, Gander Mountain, Orvis and many other retail stores.
