Company enlists employees to share health tips from around the world

NEWARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Prudential Financial Inc. (NYSE: PRU) demonstrated its commitment to employee health recently by setting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the longest line of sticky notes, totaling a final count of 24,675 notes that contained health and wellness suggestions.

Measuring 1,283 feet and eight inches, the line of sticky notes was approximately four times the height of the Statue of Liberty. Prudential’s Health and Wellness organization sponsored the event, which enlisted employees from across the world who contributed standard size notes with handwritten messages answering the question: “How do you stay healthy?”

“Prudential has become known for its culture of health and a big part of that is our employees’ strategies for getting and staying well in our five areas of health: physical, emotional, spiritual, financial and social,” said Andrew Crighton, M.D., Prudential's chief medical officer. “This challenge was an opportunity for employees to share their tips for well-being, inspire their coworkers around the world and set a world record while doing it.”

Prudential employees from 13 countries submitted their sticky notes with personal health and wellness messages. Rules for the competition required sticky notes to be 3 inches squared with messages accepted in any language, drawing from any of Prudential’s five areas of health. With an initial record of 5,000 notes to beat, the Health and Wellness team assembled the line of sticky notes in the presence of Guinness judges in the new Prudential Tower lobby in Newark, NJ.

“This isn’t a traditional wellness exercise, but it’s a record and engagement that brings people together to make them think about health in a way they wouldn’t have done before,” said Philip Robertson, adjudicator for GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS, who oversaw the final count of the sticky notes. “This contest shows that employees are thinking about the health of their colleagues, and making recommendations about how they can stay fit and engage at a level that’s healthy for both body and mind – 24,675 notes are people’s stories for friends and colleagues they truly care about and that level of engagement illustrates how passionate Prudential employees are.”

This project was just one example of the innovative and engaging ways Prudential supports its employees in focusing on their health, wellness and work- life effectiveness. “Our employees have embraced our programs that aim to enhance productivity and vitality,” Dr. Crighton said. “The remarkable response we received to this project shows the company and our employees are on board with prioritizing health and reaping the rewards that come with that.”
