As recently mentioned, the next version of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone is expected to lose the traditional 3.5-mm headphone jack in an effort to make the device even thinner. 9to5mac said today that a new report all but confirms that speculation.
Information was derived from recent iOS 9.3 beta 1.1 code, according to the report. The code reads, in part, "Headphones.have.%sinput.NO."
Some feel that the code might just reference whether headphones/speakers are plugged into the device.
In any case, the rumors are still unconfirmed. Getting rid of an integral part of the device might also turn away some potential buyers, which would rather not spend a premium for Bluetooth headphones and replacement batters or charging ports.
Shares of Apple are lower in mid-afternoon trading.
