Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) CEO Marissa Mayer might not be known for her sense of humor and one recent event isn't helping the cause.
The NY Post noted that Mayer recently joked about not firing anyone "this week," according to a source within the company. The comment, which was made at a company meeting, hasn't helped already low morale at the one-time Internet search giant.
Some view the quip as Mayer still preparing to cut jobs at some point in the near future.
Yahoo! is also said to be planning a 10 percent workforce reduction, according to reports earlier last week. Some speculate that the actual number could be around 20 to 25 percent.
Investors don't seem to mind, with Yahoo! shares up over 2 percent Tuesday.
