Allianz Life Employee Donations Support Five Local Charities
Money, toys, and more than 23 tons of groceries and clothes will help thousands in need
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Employees from Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life®) donated to the company’s “Spirit of Giving” campaign by raising more than $108,000, collecting 46,000 pounds of food and clothing, thousands of new toys and 100 gently used books. Employees’ donations will be used throughout the community by five Twin Cities’ area nonprofit organizations.
During the Allianz Life annual Spirit of Giving campaign, employees collected, weighed and boxed food and clothing donations. Teams also raised money for Second Harvest Heartland and Toys for Tots by selling baked goods, serving breakfast and collecting money to gift-wrap co-workers’ presents.
“I’m proud to see our employees donate their time, talent, and resources with such enthusiasm and compassion,” said Allianz Life President and CEO Walter White. “Through corporate giving programs and employee-led initiatives, we will continue to support organizations that build a stronger community for local families and seniors."
Five area nonprofits benefited from the Allianz Life giving campaign. More than 24,000 pounds of food was delivered to PRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry), a social service agency located in Golden Valley, Minn. that helps thousands of families and seniors in need. The Arc Greater Twin Cities received more than 22,000 pounds of gently used clothing to be sold at Arc’s Value Village stores, which in turn fund programs for adults and children with developmental disabilities. More than $77,000 went to Second Harvest Heartland, the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization. The remainder of the money ($31,600), 3,600 toys, and 74 bikes went to Toys for Tots, which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford them. People Serving People, Hennepin County’s largest shelter for homeless families based in downtown Minneapolis, received more than 100 books.
During the campaign’s 16 years, Allianz Life employees have given more than:
- $699,000 in cash donations,
- 296,000 pounds of food, and
- 297,000 pounds of clothing.
While loading the semi-trucks, Allianz Life employees were entertained by two local sports mascots – T.C. Bear from the Minnesota Twins and Nordy from the Minnesota Wild. Joe Schmit from KSTP-TV emceed the event and students from the Dassel-Cokato High School Honor Society also helped out.
