On market technician posed the question today: Does Black Friday even matter?
It would seem that that short answer is yes, but so is the long one.
The following was posted to twitter on Friday by Ryan Detrick:
Does Black Friday matter? Past 20 years, $SPX does much better the rest of yr when Black Friday is red. $SPY pic.twitter.com/WBoKcG4yus

Detrick noted that the S&P 500 closing lower on Black Friday is a positive for the remainder of the year, while the index closing higher on Black Friday still amounted to a positive year-end run, but not as robust as it could have been. So, Black Friday results actually do matter for those looking for a good end-of-year run higher.
The S&P 500 is slightly positive early Friday.
