NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IPC Healthcare, Inc. (Nasdaq: IPCM), a leading national acute hospitalist and post-acute provider organization, announced today that Kunal Bhagat, M.D., FACP, and Felipe Orellana, M.D., were named two of the nation’s Top Ten Hospitalists in the November issue of ACP Hospitalist, a publication of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Bhagat, who joined IPC in 2012, is currently serving as IPC’s Practice Group Leader for Christiana Hospital located in Newark, Delaware. He provides daily clinical leadership for the facility’s hospitalists and serves on five hospital committees. Dr. Bhagat is also a Lean Six Sigma Team Leader and, in this role led his team on a project to lower inappropriate physical therapy consults, successfully reducing the rate from 40% to approximately 10-15%. Additionally, in 2014, Dr. Bhagat was named an IPC “Clinician of the Year.”

Dr. Orellana has been with IPC for nearly 12 years and serves as IPC’s Practice Group Leader at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, a community hospital that is part of BJC HealthCare. There, he also serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the hospital. To help address the potential shortage of hospital medicine physicians, Dr. Orellana implemented a program to recruit and use more physician extenders into his IPC team mix. The initiative has been very successful and the workflow has improved significantly.

Dr. Orellana also has the distinction of being a graduate of the 2011 IPC-UCSF Fellowship for Healthcare Leaders program. The Fellowship is a customized program developed for IPC providers through a partnership with UCSF’s Division of Hospital Medicine (http://hospitalmedicine.ucsf.edu/) and the Center for the Health Professions (http://futurehealth.ucsf.edu/). The program’s vision is to develop a cadre of effective and inspiring leaders to work within their facilities to promote positive change in health care.

“We are extremely proud that both Dr. Bhagat and Dr. Orellana have been honored by ACP Hospitalist as two of the country’s preeminent hospitalists,” said Adam Singer, M.D., chairman and CEO of IPC. “Both are natural born leaders who work tirelessly to achieve superior performance and are diligent about promoting our physician-facility alignment with their respective hospitals. Along with their demonstrated clinical expertise, both physicians exemplify IPC’s core values of leadership, teamwork and professionalism.”

Drs. Bhagat and Orellana are the eighth and ninth IPC physicians to be named a “Top Hospitalist” by ACP Hospitalist.
