Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) recently announced that it would be adding a live streaming video feature to Mentions, which allows public figures to share live video with their fans and each other.
GlobelWebIndex took a look at why this is an important feature. In a blog post today, GWI also noted that Facebook users will be able to view video again if they miss an initial broadcast, something peers like Periscope and Meerkat don't offer.
GWI also observed that, ...some 86 percent of Periscope users are members of Facebook, for example, as are 92 percent of Viners. But the figure creeps even higher among Meerkat users, an impressive 93 percent of whom have a Facebook account.
The addition of live video will aid to the "stickiness" of Facebook.
Shares of Facebook are up modestly Monday.
