Recipients Include Community Programs for Children, Teens, and Seniors

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America (Allianz Life®) has awarded $275,000 in financial literacy grants to 17 nonprofit organizations in the Twin Cities. Each grant was between $5,000 and $20,000, and continued the support Allianz Life has provided these organizations in the past. The recipients are using the funds to educate consumers on retirement, financial abuse, and personal finance.

Among the recipients are organizations helping low-income students go to college, families to become more resilient, adults and teens to emerge from addiction, and women to become entrepreneurs. Some of the approaches to building financial literacy are traditional, while other groups take a unique approach to the topic. For example, a theatre group presents a whimsical take on personal finance for first- through fourth-graders with a talking cow and enterprising chickens.

“These organizations are finding new and creative ways to reach many different audiences with important information about how to build a more secure financial future,” said Allianz Life President and CEO Walter White. “Allianz Life supports their efforts to educate young people and seniors, in particular, because these groups may be vulnerable to financial exploitation.”

Allianz Life also maintains a strategic partnership with Junior Achievement and BestPrep to drive financial literacy in youth. This partnership, running through 2016, provides the organizations annually with $100,000 each and the time of hundreds of Allianz Life employee volunteers.

Grants were awarded to the following 17 nonprofits:
