Deutsche Telekom CEO Voices Against T-Mobile (TMUS), DISH Network (DISH) Deal

June 9, 2015 8:42 AM EDT

T-Mobile (NYSE: TMUS) and DISH Network (Nasdaq: DISH) are on watch Tuesday following reports that one key executive might not be interested in conducting a merger.

The NY Post reported that Deutsche Telekom (OTCBB: DTEGY) CEO Timotheus Höttges would prefer T-Mobile to combine spectrum with Sprint (NYSE: S). The exec believes a combination with Spint would provide a huge value.

Höttges believes conducting a deal with Sprint (in this case, a partnership) might draw Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) for a potential takeover. That idea would be killed with a DISH Network combination due to too manu regulatory concerns.

Commentary came during an RBC Capital event last week.

While Deutsche Telekom doesn't control T-Mobile's board, it does own 66 percent of the company's stock.

T-Mobile is flat in early trading.
