Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is on watch following the recent debut of its latest tablet, the Surface 3.
According to Digitimes, citing segment vendors on the news, Microsoft is likely to see significant competition in its Surface 3 target market, which will lead to low shipments of the device.
Priced at over $600, including keyboard, the Surface 3 should have only a small impact on other two-in-one products, which generally price at or below the $350 range, on average.
The Surface 3 does sport an Intel Atom processor and runs Windows 8.1, which could be seen as an advantage to competitors.
Microsoft is generally targeting education and second-PC segments with the Surface 3, both highly competitive markets.
Digitimes sees Surface-series shipments accounting for 30 percent of global Windows-based tablet shipments this year.
Shares of Microsoft are positive early.
