Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is on watch Wednesday morning following news that the software giant might have seen one of its key platforms hacked.
According to the WSJ, Microsoft's Outlook email service may have been targeted by hackers in China.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, one Microsoft spokesperson said, We are aware of a small number of customers impacted by malicious routing to a server impersonating Outlook.com ... If a customer sees a certificate warning, they should contact their service provider for assistance.
Notably, censorship watchdog Greatfire.org said recently that it believes hacks against Microsoft, Apple, Google, and others, are being directed by The Cyberspace Administration of China. The conclusion was drawn due to similarities of the hacks.
Only Outlook customers in China were affected.
Shares of Microsoft are lower early Wednesday.
