Amazon.com (AMZN) Looks to Roll Out Ad-Supported Video-Streaming Platform (NFLX)

November 21, 2014 7:33 AM EST

Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) is looking to take a little more market share in the streaming-video market.

According to the NY Post, Amazon will begin offering an ad-supported video-streaming service next year. The platform will be separated from Amazon Prime, which includes video with its $99 annual subscription.

Analysts speculate that Amazon's ad-supported platform would move to undercut Netflix's (Nasdaq: NFLX) $7.99 per month price.

While it will be separate from Prime right now, the long-term goal of Amazon is to up-sell users to Prime down the line.

It wasn't made clear what sort of content will be available on the lower-cost video service or when the launch date will happen.

Shares of Amazon and Netflix are both positive in early trading Friday.
